DEATH OF FORMER KEOSAUQUA CITIZEN
D. M. Meredith, of 1421 Garden street, well known and widely loved pioneer resident died at his home Friday, October 25, in his 86th year.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 o’clock Monday at the first Baptist church, of which he was a charter member and deacon emeritus.
He is survived by his daughter Mary and son, Carl, of this city.
Mr. Meredith had been a resident of San Luis Obispo for 51 years and was widely know as a pioneer teacher, banker and business man and leader in Baptist church affairs.
He was born in Iowa, June 17, 1844, and came to California in 1877.
He moved to San Luis Obispo in August, 1878, to become principal of the public schools, teaching for seven years in Court and Emerson schools.
In later years he resumed teaching at various schools in the county. From 1898 to 1911 he was associated with the Andrews Banking Co., and then went into the insurance and real estate business.
Mr. Meredith joined with 12 others in founding the First Baptist church here in 1883 and continued an active member until illness confined him to his home.
Services will be in charge of acting pastor, Geo. E. Burlingame. The Odd Fellows will conduct services at the cemetery.
Mr. Meredith is[sic] 1870 married Miss Carrie Prosper who died at the age of 35 in 1886. He married Miss Louise Hardenburg in 1897 and she died in April, 1920.
A nephew here, T. a. Greenlief, survives him, together with other relatives in San Diego, and a sister, Mrs. Abbie Daughrity, of Keosauqua, Iowa.---San Luis Obispo Daily Telegram.
