Marjorie DeSpiegelaere, 80, of Kirksville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Mo.
The daughter of John and Herma (Hill) Park, Marjorie was born April 29, 1928, in Douds, Iowa. On Feb. 14, 1953, in Eldon, Iowa, she was united in marriage to James Robert "Bob" DeSpiegelaere, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her death were her parents; infant daughter, Mary Ellen DeSpiegelaere; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Wegner and five brothers, Don, Van, Brian, Alvin and Larry Park.
Marjorie is survived by her four children, Pat Peters and her husband, Tony of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tom DeSpiegelaere and his wife, Holly of Omaha, Neb., Marie Wiskirchen and her husband, Larry of Kirksville, Mo., and Jane DeSpiegelaere-Wegner and her husband, Bob of Osage Beach, Mo., and nine grandchildren, Travis and Justin Peters, Layne and Reid DeSpiegelaere, Kelsey, Kevyn, Aaron and Anna Wiskirchen and Je'Anne Wegner.
Marjorie had lived in the areas of Douds and Batavia, Iowa, graduating from the Batavia High School with the Class of 1945. In June 1949 she enlisted in the United States Air Force and was discharged Dec. 1, 1952. After the service she married Bob, and along with their family, they owned and operated the family business, Batavia Gardens, until her retirement. In 2002 she moved to Kirksville, Mo. to be near her family.She was a lifetime member of the American Legion, having been a member for 57 years, and was a member of the V.F.W. in Fairfield, Iowa. Marjorie loved the outdoors including fishing and was an avid sports fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Deacon Dave Ream officiating.
Burial with full military rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, in the Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, Iowa.
