Rex Vernon dies at 85

KEOSAUQUA - Rex O. VERNON, 85, retired Keosauqua merchant, died Saturday at _:30 p.m. at Van Buren Memorial Hospital.

The service will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Bill Bensheimer officiating. Burial will be in Garrett Cemetery near Delta.

Memorials to the Van Buren County Public Health Nursing Service may be left at the funeral home.

The son of James and Adda LOWER VERNON, he was born Oct. 20, 1894 at Delta. On Oct. 20, 1894 at Delta. On Oct. 25, 1916, he married Mildred EASTBURN at Delta.

They operated a general store in Delta. He was with Graham stores in several Iowa towns and operated a variety store in Fairfield for a number years. He established Vernon's Variety Store in Keosauqua in 1960, retiring in 1973.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Robert VERNON, Fairfield, a daughter, Martha BALDWIN, Bethesda, Md., a granddaughter, a grandson, three brothers, Clair VERNON, Indianapolis, nd.(sic: Ind.), Harry VERNON, Des Moines and James VERNON, Baltimore, Md., two sisters, Opal VERNON and Margaret CHAVANS, both of Des Moines.

He was a 50-year member of Center Lodge No. 575, AF& AM and a 50-year member of Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion.
