Emma Skaggs rites Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM --- Services for Emma Margaret Skaggs, 86, who died Monday morning at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield, will be a 2 p.m. Wednesday at Birmingham Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Birmingham Free Methodist Church.

Mrs. Skaggs was born Dec. 18, 1896 in Mason City, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Catherine Schmidt Peplow. On June 28, 1916 she married Crawford H. Skaggs Sr. in Mason City, Ill. He died April 8, 1962.

Surviving are four sons: Lyle, Howard, Bill, all of Birmingham, Jim of Fairfield; two daughters, Katherine Pfieffer, Dora McWhirter, both of Birmingham; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Van Nattan of Rockford, Ill., Rose Durrett of Springfield, Ill., Ida Bale of Easton, Ill., Charlotte Earhart of South Pekin, Ill.

Two daughters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Skaggs was a homemaker. She had lived 63 years in the Birmingham community, where she was a member of the Free Methodist Church, WMFI, and Bethel Ladies Aid.
