Parker services Thursday

Services for Linnie Lyon Parker, 87, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

The Rev. Charles Kincaid will officiate and burial will be in Purdom Cemetery at Keosauqua.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their own convenience and memorials may be made to the Extended Care Unit at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Mrs. Parker died at 4:50 a.m. Monday at Jefferson County Hospital.

She was born March 11, 1898, at Mount Sterling in Van Buren County, the daughter of John J. and Martha Ellen Calhoun Logan.

Her marriage to Thomas G. Lyon took place July 5, 1919 in Waco, Texas. He died in October 1936. She married C. C. Parker, Aug. 20, 1957. He died April 20, 1976.

Mrs. Parker had made her home at 506 ˝ North B in Fairfield for the past seven years after living in Van Buren County and Mount Pleasant.

She was an elementary school teacher in Van Buren County and the Hen County school system for 44 years before her retirement.

She was a lifetime member of ISEA, VFW Auxiliary, BPW, AARC and Rebekah Lodge of which she was a past noble grand. She was also a member of the East side Mothers Club, and a member of the “Hall of Fame” of the Iris Bowling Club of Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include a daughter, Thelma Simpson, Fairfield; two stepsons, Delbert Parker, Wayland and Russell Parker, Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and two stepsons.
