Larry Nixon dies at 49

Larry Grant Nixon, 49, Route 2, died at 12:25 p.m. Monday at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health for several months and hospitalized for the last three weeks.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner funeral Home. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society, Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and First United Methodist Church.

Nixon was born Sept. 16, 1935 in Fairfield, the son of James and Elizabeth Carmichael Nixon. He married Barbara Davidson in the Stockport Methodist Church on July 1, 1956. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, 1st Lt. David L. Nixon, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., a daughter, Deanna Merrill, Libertyville; one grandson; one sister, Patricia Miller, Keosauqua; two brothers, James H. Nixon, Stockport, Jack T. Spaulding, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and aunt, and several nieces and nephews.

Nixon graduated from Stockport High School and Parsons College. He was employed by Parsons College from 1958 to 1973, the Iowa State Auditors Office, South Iowa Area Crime Commission; and for the last seven years as controller for Fairfield Aluminum Castings. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Workman Lodge 634—Past Master; Kaaba Shrine, 32nd degree Mason; Stockport Order of Eastern Star 544, Elks, Walton, Trojan Booster Club, Jefferson County Police Reserve and Ducks Unlimited.
