Ernest Lee Canaday

Ernest Lee Canaday, 77, of 205 W. Briggs Ave. and formerly of Birmingham, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at his home.

The funeral will be 1:30 p. m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Mike Renken officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham with military honors.

The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Birmingham. A memorial has been established to the Building Blocks of Birmingham play ground fund.

Mr. Canaday was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Birmingham, the son of Albert and Dulcia Gire Canaday. He married Ruth Smith on December 18, 1953, at Birmingham. They were divorced.

Mr. Canaday grew up in the Birmingham community, graduated from Birmingham High School. He lived most of his life in the Birmingham area. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from Aug. 22, 1951 until Aug. 21, 1953.

He was retired, having worked as a mechanic and set-up man for Barker Company in Keosauqua; Harper Brush Works; J & B Plastics and at Fairfield Engineering.

Survivors include one son, Ronald Canaday of Packwood; two daughters, Linda Wilson and husband Dave of Des Moines and Janice Neff of Ottumwa; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Mr. Canaday was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred, Ralph and Carroll Canaday; and one sister, Esther Beswick.
