Corp. Walter R. Cochenour

Corp. Walter R. Cochenour was born Feb. 14, 1897, in Scotland county, Mo., and died Sept. 10, 1918, at Camp Long Island, Jamestown, being 20 years, 7 months and 28 days old. He was a volunteer soldier in his country’s service and was ready for over sea service at the time of his death. Three of his brothers are in France as soldiers, and his two remaining brothers expect to enter the service within a short time. The particulars of his death have not reached his friends, the government saying only that his death was caused by gun-shot received while on duty. The body was brought to Cantril, hermetically sealed, which prevented his many friends from viewing his remains. The casket was met at the depot by a large crowd of people, pupils of the public schools and a martial band escorted the remains to Upton where funeral and burial services were held.
