Elizabeth Endersby was born in Campton, Bedfordshire, England, December 2, 1836, and finished her earthly life in her home at Bonaparte, July 30 1899, at the age of 62 years, 7 month, and 28 days.
In 1841 she came with her parents to this country. First to Hillsboro, later to the farm in Harrisburgh township this county. Here she resided until her marriage with George W. Sturdivant. This ocurred December 12, 1856. April 7, 1857, Mr. and Mrs. Sturdivant began a journey across the plains, going with ox train, crossing the Missouri river May 17, and arriving in California Aug. 23, having been more than five months upon the way.
They settled near Yreka in that state. There two children were born to them.
They returned to this vicinity in 1860 and made their final home in Bonaparte in 1862. Here Mr. Sturdivant died Jan. 20, 1874.
Seven children were born to them, of whom two sons, Albert and Frank survive.
Mrs. Sturdivant exemplified the beauty and graces of Christian womanhood. Her influence for good is of priceless worth. She was christened in the church of England, in early life, united with the Methodist Episcopal and later with the Presbyterian church of Bonaparte of which she was one of the earliest members.
A large number of relative(s) and friends met to pay their tribute of respect to her memory at the services held in the Presbyterian church, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1. These were conducted by her pastor Rev. W. H. Scofield. The interment was in the White cemetery where her remains repose near those of many of her loved ones.
