Obituary of Maggie Pearl Mathias

Maggie Pearl Plowman, daughter of Thomas and Mary Plowman, was born near Douds, Iowa, October 5, 1886, and departed this life February 23, 1927, at the age of 40 years, 4 months and 18 days.

She was united in marriage to Clay Mathias November 27, 1907, at her home near Douds, and lived her entire life in this community. She was a member of the Methodist church at Zion and lived a christian life. Her health had been failing for a long time and on February 18 she was taken to a hospital at Ottumwa where everything that loving hands, medical skill and best nursing could do was done, but to no avail. Loving hands were with her all the time to comfort and aid, but she was called to the better home beyond. She was preceded in death by one sister, Leona and her father and mother for whom she grieved greatly.

She is survived by her husband, four brothers, Emory, of Keosauqua, Luther, of Kilbourne, Harley, of Birmingham, Frank of Douds and one sister, Mrs. Charles Claflin, of Douds.

She was kind and loving, preferring a quiet home life. There will be a vacant place in the home, but the consolation lies in the fact that there is a home in Heaven where there will be no more pain or sorrow.

There is a calm for those who weep,
A rest for weary pilgrims found,
They softly lie and sweetly sleep,
Low in the ground.

Burial was made at the Leando cemetery, Rev. Charles R. Rowe in charge of the funeral services.
