WILLIAM LEARD FOSTER

Wm. Leard Foster, who died at his home near Big Mound was one of Van Buren county’s oldest and most highly respected citizens, and was well known to the people of Farmington as though he had lived here. He was born in Indiana county, Penn., Sept. 18, 1827. His boyhood days were spent in Ohio and Pennsylvania, coming to Van Buren Co. in the fall of 1856. In Aug. 1858 he was married to Miss Sarah Licnty, his now bereaved companion, who with two daughters and one son are bowed down with grief. Mr. Foster was a gentleman whose word was as good as his note, one to fulfill a promise at any cost; a man of strong convictions and good judgement[sic]. His life has been most and successful, and Christian like. He had reached and passed life’s noon time, and the welcome sunset has come. The funeral services were held in the Sharon Presbyterian church of which he was a member, on Sunday at 1 p.m. and was conducted by Rev. B.M. Boydston. The city choir consisting of Mrs. Henry Doeling, Misses Carrie Dank and Birdie Noske and A.E. Townsend furnished the music. Mr. Foster was held in high esteem by all which was duly testified by the large number that attended to show their last mark of respect to the dead and to offer by their presence the sympathy they entertain for the bereaved family.
