B. F. Whitmore

Mr. B. F. Whitmore was born near Columbus, Ohio, March 26, 1835. When only nine years of age he came with his parents to Iowa and settled near Agency City. Later he moved near Farmington and after a while moved to the vicinity of Bonaparte.

In the year 1862 he was united in marriage with Miss Amy E. Chapman, who then resided near Bonaparte, and to this union five children were born. One son, Allen, died at the age of twenty-five, and one daughter, Laura, died at the age of twelve years. Those now living are P. F. Whitmore of Buena, Arizona; Mrs. T. S. Curtis of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and E. G. Whitmore of Bonaparte, Iowa.

Mr. Whitmore made his home in Bonaparte and vicinity for approximately sixty-five years, having been in the employ of one firm here for fifty years. He was friendly, aniable and kind and he tried to do the right by all with whom he came in contact.

After a short illness he passed away on Monday evening, September 25, 1916, aged eighty-one years and six months. Funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon with Rev. D. Mason of [unclear] Presbyterian church in charge interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.

He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Mrs. A. E. Whitmore, three children above named, four brothers, Sampson S. of Stewartsville, Mo., Allen of Seymour, Iowa, Hazard A. of Bonaparte, Iowa, and Cyrus, of Salt Lake City, Utah; also two sisters, Mrs. Z. T. Cox of Manito, Ill., and Mrs. M. M. Leach of Ottumwa, Iowa; and many friends.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Cox and daughter, Effie, of Manito, Ill.; S. S. Whitmore and daughter, Mrs. Hendricks, of Stewartsville, Mo.; Allen Whitmore of Seymour, Iowa; Frank Jacobson of Ottumwa; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ransom and Mrs. Clark Ware of Hillsboro, Iowa.
