Alfred Chapman, one of [missing] old citizens in our community died at his home Thursday evening. He had been in failing health for about three years and his death was expected at any time. He was nearly eighty-five years old and had lived in Bonaparte and vicinity for over forty years.

Mr. Chapman was born in Scotland and came with his parets [sic] to America when he was about nine years of age. They settled first in Lee county. He married Miss Martha Pipe. They had thirteen children, nine of whom are living. Mrs. Chapman died about fifteen years ago. The funeral services were held from the family home Monday afternoon, a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathering to show the respect and esteem in which this good man was held, and express to the sorrowing sons and daughters their sympathy.

T. P. Chapman and wife and Alfred Chapman of St. Louis are visiting Bonaparte relatives, having been called here by the death of their father, Mr. Alfred Chapman.
