Obituary of Chas. U. G. Robinson

Charles U. G. Robinson, son of D. A. and Nancy Robinson, was born in Benton county, near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, June 16th, 1863. When Charles was five years old his parent moved to Van Buren county, where his home has ever since been, and where, with the exception of three years, at different periods, spent in the western states, his residence has been. He attended public school in Milton and the Troy Academy. June 16th, 1889, Mr. Robinson married Elizabeth Canfield, who died four years later (March 4, 1893). On June 13, 1900, he united in marriage with Miss Eva Woodward of Milton. They made their residence in Keosauqua, where Mr. Robinson was engaged in the furniture business. Two sons were born to them, Raymond Woodward and Lawrence Lyman. Twelve years ago Mr. Robinson’s health began to decline and for the past five years, he been an almost entirely helpless invalid, suffering much, and through all this weary and painful period has been constantly and tenderly cared for by his devoted wife. About four weeks ago he had an attack of influenza, from the effects of which in his weakened condition he had not strength to rally and declined rapidly. Death released him from his suffering at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, May 25th, 19109, at the age of 56 years, lacking 22 days. Mr. Robinson was converted and joined the Methodist church of Milton, during the pastorate of Rev. J. W. Potter. He was member of the orders of Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and Moderen Woodmen. Of his own immediate family, all have passed away, except two sisters, Mrs. G. W. Wilson living near Lebanon, and Mrs. F. B. Wilson, residing near Troy. Funeral services were conducted in the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock by his pastor. Rev. Jess A. Monkman. Interment was in Milton cemetery where a brief ceremony was held by the Keosauqua I. O. O. F. The many beautiful flowers speak of the loving affection of many relatives and friends. Surely the sympathy of the entire community is felt by the bereaved wife and children in that sad affliction.

OBITUARY

Mr. Charles U. G. Robinson, for 19 years a highly respected citizen of Keosauqua; for a part of that time engaged in business, but for several years past an invalid and confined to his home, died at an early hour last Sunday evening.

Funeral services were conducted in the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock by his pastor, the Rev. Jesse A. Monkman. Interment was made in Milton cemetery, where a short service was held by the Keosauqua lodge I. O. O.F. The many beautiful flowers which covered and surrounded the casket bespoke the tender and loving affection of many relatives and friends. Surely the kindest sympathy of the entire community is felt for the bereaved wife and children in this hour of their sad affliction.
