"Our Mother"

DIED: At her home near Birmingham, Iowa, Sabbath evening, June 28, 1891, of dropsy of the heart, Mrs. Laura I. Enlow, aged 55 years, 3 months and 12 days.

Laura Isabella Stonebraker was born in Washington county, Maryland, March 16, 1836. Her mother died when she was ten years of age and her father when she was fifteen. She came to Iowa in 1855, and was married at Birmingham, Iowa, to William H. Enlow, on June 5, 1856. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom have preceded her to the spirit land. Four children, one daughter and three sons, are still living. These with her husband and some near friends were at her bedside when she drew her parting breath.

Of her near relatives there are also two brothers and two sisters whom she leaves behind. They all live in the East, one brother and sister, Huyett? Stonebraker and Anna Krouse in Maryland, and the other two, Freeling Stonebraker and Mary Krouse, in Virginia.

The funeral was held at the family residence, one mile northwest of Birmingham, on Tuesday, June 30, at 10 A. M., Rev. L. W. Rubardt conducting the exercises. Near the center of the new cemetery her remains were laid to rest to await the call of resurrection morn.

She was converted when about sixteen years of age and united with the Lutheran church at Funkstown, Md. When she came to Winchester, Iowa, the Lutheran church was about broken up and she united with the M. E. church at that place and worshipped with that society until she moved to her late home, since which time she had not been connected with any church, but has always lived in the fear of God and maintained the principles of truth and righteousness. She was a true wife and a kind and unselfish mother, ever ready to deny herself for her husband and children. She took special interest in reform work and always gave her voice and influence against everything which she considered contrary to the scriptures.
