Mary M. Mowre was born near Louisville, Ky., Feb. 9, 1834. When 9 years of age she moved to Greensburg, Ind., with her parents. In 1846 her parents moved to Davis county, Iowa, near Iowaville. From Davis county they moved to Van Buren county on the old state road four miles east of Troy. She married to Geo. Pennington August 1, 1850. In 1869 they moved to Milton where they resided the remainder of their days. To them were born ten children, David B. and Sarah A. died in infancy, Mary F. McCombs of Milton, Charlotte E. Smith, Amanda J. Stevens of Long Beach, California, Chas. E. of Prescott, Ariz., Maggie died in infancy, Cora B. McBratney of Omaha, Neb., and Sarah and Dr. G. S. of Milton. There are seventeen grandchildren living and five great-grandchildren. She united with the M. E. church at Greensburg, Ind., when eleven years old and has ever remained a member until called to the church triumphant. She died Feb. 18th, at her home in Milton, Iowa, aged 71 years and 4 days. The funeral was held at her late home in Milton, Iowa, Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 2 p.m. conducted by D. Rowland Martin after which the remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery south of town. Thus another old settler and citizen has passed away she leaves many relatives and friends to morn her.
