BARBARA A. STANLEY was born in New Albany, Ind., July 2, 1824, died un Unionville, Iowa, March 19th, 1904, being 79 years, 8 months and 19 days old. Mrs. Stanley was the oldest of nine children born to Mr. Bruke and Mary Huffman. Her brothers were Robert J. H., who died in Andersonville prison; Samuel, who was a minister of the M. E. church, was wounded in the battle of Ft. Donelson, Feb. 13, 1862, came home on furlough, but died soon after; James M., died in Dec. 1900; John W., of Chalice, Idaho, died Dec. 1900. The home of Frederick B., is Salt Lake City, Utah, that of George W., of Spokane, Wash., of Hiatt, Birmingham, Iowa. Her sister, Mary E. Bishop lives near Fairfield, Iowa.
The deceased came with her parents to Iowa in 1836, who settled in Van Buren county. She was married to Moses Stanley, Feb. 15, 1840, who died Nov. 28, 1854. To this union was born two sons and four daughters. One son died in infancy in 1850. The oldest daughter, Mary A. Barton, died in 1893. Those living are W. H. Stanley, Mrs. R. E. Buckmaster, Mrs. E. A. Long and Mrs. S. E. Walmer. These with her brothers, Hiatt were present at the funeral.
Soon after her marriage Mrs. Stanley was converted and joined the M. E. church and continued a faithful member until death, her bible being her constant companion. She was a woman of great faith, and believed in eulogizing the living rather than the dead.
The funeral took place March 21, from the M. E. church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. R. Rolingson. A large number of friends and neighbors were present bringing many flowers of which she was passionately fond.
