Mrs. Fred Murphy

Jalina Madison King, daughter of Henry and Margaret King, was born near Summerset, Mo., November 12, 1861, and passed away from her earthly life at her home near Keosauqua, Iowa, on August 7, 1931, being aged 69 years, 8 months and 25 days.

On March 8, 1882, Miss King was united in marriage to Mr. Fred Murphy, who with the children and eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild are left to mourn their loss of a living wife, mother and grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy became the parents of five children all living. They are Mrs. Lelah Burkett of Keosauqua; Charles Murphy of Milton, Iowa; Morris and Ohio Murphy of Keosauqua, Iowa, and Mrs. Iva Baird of Wyaconda, Mo.

The deceased also leaves one brother, Ohio King of Meridian, Idaho, one half brother, J. H. Seaman of Milton, Iowa; two half sisters, Mrs. Sophia Ellis of Cantril, Iowa, and Miss Nelle Seaman of Chicago, Ill. One brother, Morris King and one sister, Mrs. Anna Wooden have preceded her in death.

Mrs. Murphy was a woman of true Christian character and faith. She was a member of the Christian church of Keosauqua, and lived a true Christian life always ready to help wherever needed in the home and among relatives and friends and neighbors. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge in which she further gave expression to her social nature to be helpful to others.

Her bier was carried to the last resting place of the body by six grandsons, Raymond, Dale, Leo, Lawrence and Kenneth Murphy and Fred Burkett who acted as pallbearers.

She has crossed the dark river,
She has left this world of care.
Gone to live and be with Jesus,
In that land so bright and fair.
Oh how sweet will be the meeting
When we cross the mystic tide,
Then we’ll meet our darling mother,
When we reach the other side.
