John H. Arnold Rites Were Sunday
Funeral services for John Hinton Arnold, 77, life-long resident of Van Buren County, were held from the chapel of the Burnett Funeral Home Sunday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Reynolds Murdock had charge of the service.
Burial was in Purdom cemetery. Pallbearer included: Carl Smith, Eldon Wendling, Don Arnold, Earl Arnold, James Arnold and Arcie Sapato.
John Hinton Arnold was born near Keosauqua, October 12, 1869, and passed away in the Burlington hospital Thursday, April 24, at 8:50 p.m. He broke his hip two weeks ago and was taken to the hospital in Burlington at that time.
On September, 28, 1897, he was united in marriage to Mamie Lenora Stokes of Bloomfield, Iowa, and to this union five children were born, four of whom survive; Floyd Alvin Arnold of Keosauqua, Samuel Fern Arnold of Burlington; Mrs. Alma Plumer of Des Moines; Mrs. Neva Marie Smith of Ashton, Mo. One daughter died in infancy.
Mr. Arnold was a member of the Christian Church and took an active part in church work. At one time he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and advanced to a high degree in its work. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows organization.
His wife preceded him in death in 1906; also four brothers and two sisters. Surviving him are one sister, Emma Arnold of Keosauqua; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
