MRS. FRANCES V. NEWMAN

Frances V. McCoy was born in West Virginia, April 12, 1842, where she spent the first nine years of her life. She came with her parents to Iowa in the spring of 1851 and settled at Salubria, near Farmington. Here the family resided for several years, then they moved to Pink Prairie, where, Frances grown to womanhood, was married to Henry Newman, November 10, 1863. They then settled in Clark county, Mo, where they lived until the death of her husband, who died Feb. 24, 1893. After the death of Mr. Newman, she moved to Kahoka, Mo., where she resided until some two years ago, when she moved to Farmington, Ia., and made her home with her daughter Mrs. C. H. Gares. She was the mother of three children, Bertha, who is the wife of C. H. Gares, George Newman of Bonaparte, Iowa, and Edson Newman of Mt. Sterling, Ia., who were all present at her death bed, Jan. 24, 1901, when at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 12 days, she quietly passed away. Mrs. Newman was converted and united with the M. E. church in 1882 in which communion she lived until her removal to Kahoka when she united with the Presbyterian church and later by letter with the Congregational church of Farmington, Ia., in which fellowship she was a faithful member until her death. She will be missed in the home and in the church and social circles. She leaves to mourn their loss besides her three children, six grandchildren, with a host of relatives and friends. A large crowd of friends and old neighbors gathered at the Acasto Chapel, Sunday at 2 p.m. and after an appropriate sermon by Rev. A. W. Wiggins, her mortal remains were laid to rest in the Acasto cemetery. Her aged mother who was very sick at the time of her death followed her in four days; see obituary of Mrs. McCoy

Note: Her mother was Emily (Blake) McCoy, her obituary has been posted to this site.
