Peter Russell was born March 4th, 1803 in South Carolina. When quite a boy he went to Tennessee, and while there was married Elizabeth Felkner. From there he moved to Illinois, where he lived five years. He, with his wife and two children, them emigrated to Iowa, where he took up his claim and lived there to [_?_]. Since then he has made his home with his youngest son John.

He was married twice, his first wife died in 1837. Eight children were born to them. In 1838, he was married to Sarah A. White., who died Nov. 21st, 1885. He had three children by this marriage. He was a kind father, a good neighbor and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He had lived to see nearly all of his early [___?____] pass away. Eleven children were born to him, seven survive: Mary Ann McKerhan, his eldest, lives in Appanoose county, Iowa; Millard in Carson City, Nevada; Jane Kyle in Oregon; Benton in Kansas; Ellen in California; Aurora R. Wein in Ottumwa, Iowa; John at Warren. He died Sunday morning July 28, 1889, 86 years, 4 months and 24 days old.

A large congregation gathered at the Warren church July 30th at 10 o’clock a.m., where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. H. Boydston after which his remains were interred in the butler cemetery just west of Warren.
