Mrs. Jennie M. Blackledge
The subject of this sketch, Jennie Mae Blackledge, daughter of Wm. and Marguerite Cates, was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, March 9, 1876, and departed this life in St. Louis, Mo., Dec. 12, 1905, aged 29 years 3 months and 3 days.
She was married to Henry Blackledge of Mt. Sterling Nov. 22, 1893.
They lived together until July 4, 1901.
The most of Jennie’s life was spent in Van Buren county. Six years ago she moved to Ottumwa with her husband. She still staid[sic] there after their separation until the opening of the St. Louis fair when she visited her folks in Van Buren county, then going to St. Louis, where she made her home up to the time of her death.
She was sick only a few days before her death. She was taken to the Baptist hospital where she was operated upon for appendicitis; at first she seemed to stand the operation and there were hopes of her recovery when blood poison set in and she never regained consciousness. She was operated upon on Saturday December 9, and died Tuesday, morning at 2 o’clock December 12.
She was a most kind hearted woman loved by all who knew her.
A kind and loving daughter and sister she will be sorely missed by her aged father, one sister and one brother. Her death leaves a place never to be filled.
The remains were brought to Farmington Friday, December 15. The funeral was held at Story Chapel Dec. 16. Reverend Miss Terril preaching the funeral, after which interment in the Thompson cemetery beside her mother who preceeded[sic] her to the better land twenty two years ago.
