Joshua Wells, one of the early pioneers of Van Buren co., passed from earth, on Saturday, March 8, at his home three miles west of town, in his eighty fifth year.
In 1830 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Anderson of Syracuse, N.Y. from this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters, of which one of each are living. His wife preceeded [sic] him to the better land May 1st 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Wells were both converted to God and became members of the M.E. church in the years 1835. Lived in the enjoyment of this faith and by this faith over come the last enemy and entered into eternal reward.
Mr. Wells has always been held in highest respect by all, and has lived a most exemplary life. The funeral was _____ _____[NOTE: Preceding two words were unreadable.] from the home on Sunday at _____[Note: Preceding word was unreadable.] P.M. Rev. Boydston conducting the ceremonies. As a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased, a large concourse of friends followed his remains to their last resting place.
