Mrs. W. O. Thompson

Floretta Jane Gilbert, daughter of Aaron and Agnes Gilbert, was born on a farm near Bonaparte on March 12, 1867, and departed this life at her home in Bonaparte July 6th, 1940, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 24 days. She moved with her parents to Bonaparte at the age of about 15 years.

On May 29th, 1888 she was united in marriage with William Otis Thompson of near Bonaparte and they established their home in old Thompson homestead south of Bonaparte. With the exception of one year in Missouri they have always made their home in Van Buren county, Iowa.

To this union were born four children Lela (Von Seggen), Ethel (King), Virgie (Allen), and Grace (McNamar).

In her girlhood days she gave her heart to God and later she became a charter member of the Church of the Nazarene at Farmington where she held membership until her passing away. Her greatest joys were of her home and family and in the study of the scriptures.

She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband, W. O. Thompson of Bonaparte; her four daughters, Mrs. Lela Von Seggen of Bonaparte, and Mrs. Grace McNamar of Keosauqua, also nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home on Monday afternoon at 2:00 with the Rev. C.C. Swalwell, pastor of the Farmington Nazarene church officiating, Mrs. Esther Williamson sang the three songs selected by Mrs. Thompson long before her death.
Interment was at the Thompson cemetery. Her six oldest grandsons were the pallbearers.
