Mrs. KOONTS, 48, Taken In Death; Rites Pending

DOUDS, Ia. -- Mrs. Retson KOONTS, 48, a resident of the Lebanon community, died this morning at Laughlin hospital in Kirksville, Mo. She had suffered from cancer for the past three years.

The body is at the Pedrick Funeral home. Services are pending. Mrs. KOONTS was the former Ruth CHAPPELL. She was born Dec. 2, 1914 in Plymouth, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Cornelia HELMHOUDT CHAPPELL. She was married to Retson KOONTZ (sic) Aug. 14, 1937.

Mr. and Mrs. Retson lived in Arizona and Colorado before returning to Van Buren county in 1961. Mrs. Retson was a member of the Bible Presbyterian church at Wheatridge, Colo.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Darrell and Dale, at home. Also surviving are her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Franz KELLER, Keosauqua; two brothers, Richard CHAPPELL of California and Edward CHAPPELL of Arizona; and one sister, Mrs. Edna LOTTA, of California.

Surviving step brothers and sisters are Joe KELLER, Brock, Mo.; Mrs. Marie PIERCE, Milton; Mrs. Emma KENNEDY, Mt. Sterling; Mrs. Ila Mae HOWARD, California; and Mrs. Martha WELLBORN, Donnellson.
