Dr. Ira F. Thompson

Dr. Ira F. Thompson, M. D., practicing physician in Lee county for more than 43 years, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, at Mt. Pleasant hospital after an illness of several months.

He was born Oct. 9, 1873, near Bonaparte in Van Buren county, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson. He attended Bonaparte schools and Keokuk medical college, and on Dec. 3, 1902 was united in marriage with Sarah A. Dawson at Bonaparte, who survives. Dr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Mt. Hamill where they served the community for 10 years moving from Mt. Hamill to Donnellson where he served the remainder of his life.

Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Russell of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Fern Cummings of Southgate, Calif., Mrs. Mary Warner of Bonaparte and Mrs. Myrtle Blacksmith of West Point, Iowa. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Donnellson Saturday afternoon conducted by one of his former pastors, Rev. George Hansinger of Stanford, Ill., assisted by Rev. E. K. Schneider, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed church. Donnellson, Rev. H. F. Namemaker, pastor of Zion Menonite church. Donnellson and Rev. Roy S. Spurgell, pastor of the Methodist church Donnellson. Burial was in Anson Mo. cemetery.
