Solemna Stump was born Nov. 10, 1829. She was married to Thomas Cartnal, in Muskingum county, Ohio, July, 28, 1845. They came to Missouri in the fall of 1852 and settled upon the farm, near Anson, which has since been sheir[sic] home. Mother Cartnal was taken tick[sic] in the spring with that dread disease consumption and slowly but surely has life ebbed away till on the 17th she quietly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, aged 59 years, 10 months and 7 days. She was converted and united with the M.E. church about 8 years ago. When nearing the “valley of shadows” she spoke to her friends of the hope she had of soon meeting with the loved ones gone on before, in our Father’s home above, and exhorted them to live for Christ and meet her there. Her death was peaceful and triumphant through Christ. She leaves a husband, two sons and three daughters to mourn the loss of a faithful companion and a kind and loving mother. The funeral services were held in the Anson church conducted by Rev. B.M. Boydston of Farmington, Iowa.
