With a mind bowed down with sorrow and a heart overflowing with grief I write you of the death of our Loved One, Ollie E. Pettit. She passed peacefully to rest on the 28th ult. Aged 19 years 2 months and 15 days. The[sic] had been sick but a short time with the lung fever. She was a profound and earnest believer in the Christian doctrine, having been immersed into that denomination in 1888. She was one of that class whose good fortune it was to have many friends and no enemies, as was shown by the unusual number of persons who followed her remains to their last resting place. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Giles Pettit, of Mt. Sterling. She leaves a father, mother, four sisters and four brothers, two grandmothers and a grandfather to mourn the loss of a loving daughter, sister and granddaughter. One little brother passed on before not quite a year ago. Her funeral took place on the 29th ult., at the Cavit school house, and the discourse was made by Rev. Winfro, of Milton, in the presence of a large congregation. We then followed her to a grave in the Blackledge cemetery and laid her to rest. There she will sleep until the trumpet sounds which will call her forth to immortality. The pall-bearers were Lulu Allen, Anna and Amanda Mathias, Cad McCash, William Allen and Charley Wollam.

Ollie has left us,

Our loss we deeply feel,

But it was God that bereft us;

He can all our sorrows heal.
