Obituary Sketch

George W. Thompson, was born July 25th, 1849, near Bonaparte, Iowa, and departed this life Feb. 28, 1904 from pneumonia after an illness near three weeks. He was 54 years, 7 months, and 3 days old.

He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret McCaughey Feb. 13, 1873, and to this union were born five children, viz (sic) , Dr. Ira F of Mt. Hamill, Iowa, Edward B. of Vinita, Indian Territory, Lizzie of Bonaparte, and Mrs. Mary Warner of Bonaparte, Iowa.

On Dec.13,1885 his wife passed to a higher life. On January 26, 1887, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma King of Farmington, Iowa and to this union three children were born, viz. (sic) Myrtle, Fern, and Harold, the latter dying in infancy.

On January 26, 1904, his second wife was called to her better home. He leaves to mourn their loss, three sons, four daughters, one grand-daughter, one sister, Mrs. W.P.L. Muir of Bonaparte, and one brother, Hiram Thompson of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at Story Chapel March 2, 1904, Rev. J. W. Carlson preaching from Isaiah 40: 1. The remains were laid to rest in the Thompson cemetery adjoining the farm where he was born and where his whole life was spent.
