Crown- Luella M. Wescott was born in Farmington, Ia., May 5, 1850, died Jan. 16, 1892, aged 41 years, 8 months and 11 days. In childhood she professed saving faith in Christ and united with the M.E. church of which she remained a faithful member till death. In her younger years she efficiently engaged herself in school teaching. She was united in marriage to Austin S. Crown, Feb. 25, 1875. She always enjoyed reasonably fair health until about two years ago when she was attacked with la grippe, since which time she has never enjoyed good health, but gradually failing she became a prey to that dread disease consumption, and during the last year she was quite low most of the time. She was a great sufferer at times and especially was her pain severe during the last few weeks of her illness. But she bore it patiently and with a Christian fortitude that we have not seen excelled in the experience of any. She often praised God in her most suffering moments, and seemed desirous for the salvation of all around her. She said to her pastor a few weeks before her death, “Tell the brethren and sisters God is with us in the valley of death, then again she said to him just a few days before the last, “Bro. Fraker you need not be afraid to go through the valley and shadow of death God is with us.” May God by his spirit sanctify this her dying testimony and Christian triumph to the salvation of all her family and relatives and the many friends as well as all others who may read these lines is the prayer of the writer. Sister crown[sic] was a good neighbor, loved and respected by many who knew her, she was a faithful wife, a loving and good mother, she managed and controlled her children with love, tact, and discretion. A broken hearted husband, 4 motherless and grief stricken children with a large number of other relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of one so dear to them. At 2 p.m. Jan. 17 the remains were taken from the home to the Farmington M.E. church where in the midst of a large congregation the pastor conducted appropriate funeral services. Thence in the cemetery near by, she was laid to rest till the resurrection morn.
