Luther C. Cheney died Monday June 5, 1904, at 4:15 A. M. of chronic bronchitis. He had been ill for several weeks and his death was expected.

Mr. Cheney was born at Sanbornton, New Hampshire, August 9, 1821, and was there married to Miss Betsy Ann Smith. To this union were born five children viz: Chas. W. Cheney, deceased; Geo. L. Cheney of Moberly, Mo.; Dan W. Cheney of Bonaparte, Iowa; Alice E. Lee of Beatrice, Nebraska; and E. L. Cheney of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Chas. W. died when one year old.

The family came to Iowa in 1860 and settled in Harrisburg township, afterward purchasing what is now known as the Sweeney farm north of town where they lived until a few years ago. Mr. Cheney has recently lived with his son D. W. and family in Bonaparte.

At the time of his death he was eighty-two years, nine months, and twenty-seven days old but until recently has been quite vigorous and did considerable walking about town. The weather seldom got bad enough to make him defer his regular trip for the morning mail.

Mr. Cheney was the eldest of three brothers and two sisters of whom one brother is not living.

Funeral services will be held this Wednesday afternoon.
