Prudence Helwig

Prudence Helwig, daughter of J.H. and Adeline Helwig, was born Sept. 30, 1877, at Mt. Sterling, Iowa., and passed away in Burlington Sept. 30, at the age of 65 years.

On Sept. 28, 1903, she was united in marriage to H.B. McElroy, who preceded her in death in March, 1941.

She moved when a child to Belknap, Iowa, with her parents, where her father was a postmaster. Later the family moved to Milton where she resided until 1925, when they moved to Burlington.

Surviving are three sons, Orin. C., of Milwaukee, Wisc., Thomas H., of Burlington and J. Earl of Muscatine. Two sons, Jack, who died in infancy, and Paul preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Friday, Oct. 2, in Phugh’s[sic] chapel in Burlington. Short services were held at the Sunnyside cemetery in Milton Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.C. Behrens, pastor of the Methodist church.
