Mrs. Rolland J. SMITH, lifetime resident of the Fairfield and Birmingham communities, passed away about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson county hospital. She had been seriously ill the past month and in failing health since last October.
Last rites will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Leiske of Osceola in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Helen GREENFIELD SMITH, 44, was born July 17, 1913, in Van Buren county, the daughter of Charles and Margaret RUDOLPH GREENFIELD. She was united in marriage to Rolland J. "Red" SMITH on July 1, 1931, at Fairfield. He preceded his wife in death Dec. 26, 1956.
Mrs. SMITH was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and had worked at the Fairfield Glove company for 2 1/2 years prior to her illness. The family home is located six miles south of Libertyville.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donna BARNES, Brighton; one son, John W. Smith, Fairfield; and three grandchildren.
She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles GREENFIELD, Birmingham; and two brothers, Joe GREENFIELD, Birmingham; and Lloyd GREENFIELD, Libertyville.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
