Elizabeth Schafer

Elizabeth Mae Schafer, 72, of Milton, died January 24, 1997, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born January 10, 1925, in Washington to Robert and Hattie Riley Jacobs. She married Howard Schafer November 23, 1947, in Fairfield.

She graduated from Packwood High School in 1945, and had lived in Washington, Jefferson and Van Buren counties. She had lived in Milton since 1971, and was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; six children, Mary Messer, Howard Schafer, Jr., and Linda Pearsons of Bloomfield, Elmer Schafer of Orlando, Florida, Leo Schafer of Mount Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Stager of Rubio; and four brothers, Harry Reschley of Rock Island, Clifford Jacobs of Rubio, David Jacobs of Kismet, Kansas, and Robert Jacobs, Jr. of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard; a daughter Theresa; and a brother Milford Ibendahl.

The service was Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Reverend Keith Putnam officiating. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association and left at the funeral home.
