DOUDS -- Erma M. HOOTMAN, 82, of Douds died at 4:22 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds. Open visitation began this morning at the funeral home with family present from 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials to Oak Grove Church or American Cancer Society can be left at the funeral home.
Mrs. HOOTMAN was born March 27, 1915 near Birmingham, the daughter of Rilla and Mary Alice RANARD POOL. She married Lester HOOTMAN on May 29, 1936, in Memphis, Mo. She lived her life in the White and Oak Grove communities between Douds and Birmingham. She was a farm homemaker and did custom wallpapering. She graduated from White rural school and earned her GED high school diploma at age 69. She was a member of Oak Grove Church and Ladies Aid, had taught Sunday school, was a past matron of Twin City Chapter 258 Order of Eastern Star in Douds, had been active in the Van Buren Republican Part and Republican Women, and had served on the Lick Creek Township election board.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Dennis and Wayne, both of Douds, and Darrell of Lebanon, Ill.; two daughters, Imogene PEACOCK of Douds and Juanita of Ottumwa; one foster daughter, Barbara BRICKER of Salem; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert POOL of Douds, and one sister, Ester LEYDEN of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joe, Wilson, Roscoe and Frank Colin POOL; and three sisters, Jessie SCHLEETER, Juanita POOL and Caroline CHANNEL.
