Walter HOOTMAN, son of Henry and Laura CRAWFORD HOOTMAN, was born May 16, 1887, near Douds and departed this life Monday, September 22, 1975, at the Van Buren County Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 88.
He was a retired farmer and seed corn dealer.
On August 26, 1922, he married Emma ZUEHLKE. She died in 1972. An infant daughter, Betty, two brothers and two sisters, also preceded him in death.
Remaining to cherish his memory are three daughters, Mrs. Darlene HORN of Winterset, Mrs. Norma DINGMAN of Noel, Missouri, and Mrs. Mrs. Helen FINNEY of Cedar Rapids, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Iva COHENOUR of Ottumwa, other relatives and many friends..
Walter was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and a charter member and past commander of John Hyson Reneker Post No 494, American Legion, all at Douds. A devoted family man, he will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend and one who stood firmly for those tenets which he believed were good for his community and his country.
The service will be held Thursday, September 25, 1975, at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Donald Strauch officiating. Interment with Masonic and Military rites was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
