Lester V. HOOTMAN, 93, of rural Douds, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005. at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. No family visitation is planned. Memorials to Zion Lutheran Cemetery or Oak Grove Church restoration fund may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 164, Douds 52551.
Mr. HOOTMAN was born Feb. 16, 1912, in the Oak Grove community, east of Douds, the son of C. Earl and Margaret MORROW HOOTMAN. He married Erma POOL May 29, 1936, in Memphis, Mo. She died Sept. 26, 1997.
Mr. HOOTMAN spent his life farming in the neighborhood where he was born and was also a house painter and decorator.
Mr. HOOTMAN was a member of the Oak Grove Church and a leader in its restoration. In recent times he attended Zion Bible Church, east of Douds. He was a member of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient and Free and Accepted Masons and Twin City Chapter No., 258, Order of Eastern Star, Douds Community Club and was past president of Douds Field Day Association. He had served as Van Buren County Republican chairman, was a founding member of Van Buren Conservation Board and had served on the Zion Lutheran Cemetery board and Oak Grove church and school boards.
Survivors include one daughter, Imogene PEACOCK and husband Wendell of Douds; two sons, Wayne HOOTMAN and wife Diana of Douds and Darrell HOOTMAN and wife Cindy of Mascoutah, Ill.; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis HOOTMAN; one daughter, Juanita HOOTMAN; and two brothers, Frank HOOTMAN and one in infancy.
