Sharon Kay HOOTMAN, 71, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 2:55 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at her home.
Born Jan. 15, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward M. and Evelyn Eileen MILLER LONG. In 1959, she married Gail Wyatt HOOTMAN Sr. in Burlington.
Mrs. HOOTMAN was a homemaker. She grew up in and attended school in Burlington, and graduated from Burlington High School in 1958. She lived five years in Farmington, and 40 years in Altoona, Ill., before moving to Galesburg.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington and Altoona Baptist Church.
She served as Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, and assisted with Bible school. She enjoyed crafts, reading, gardening, sewing, holidays, family events, and her pets.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Gaila CRUMP of Elmwood, Ill., and Roszella POGUE of Oneida, Ill.; four sons, Benjamin HOOTMAN of Wataga, Ill., Gail HOOTMAN Jr. of Altoona, Jonathan HOOTMAN of North Henderson, Ill., and Christopher HOOTMAN of Galesburg; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcia DICK of Burlington and Debra PLATH of West Burlington; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
The funeral for Mrs. HOOTMAN will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Steinmeyer Cemetery in Farmington with the Rev. Danny Weinreich officiating.
A memorial has been established for Steinmeyer Cemetery Association.
