Hon. D. P. Stubbs of Fairfield, one of the best known men in southeastern Iowa, died suddenly Wednesday last. Thirty years ago he was regarded as one of Iowa's great criminal lawyers. He was a member of the state senate four years. He was a greenback candidate for governor, and was a leading figure in politics for many years past. He was a very wealthy man. Mr. Stubbs was around town Wednesday apparently as well as usual. After dinner he laid down for a nap as was his custom. When an attempt was made to awaken him he had been dead an hour. Mr. Stubbs was a pioneer of Jefferson county, and was a man of great force and ability.
