David LAUGHLIN

DOUDS -- David E. LAUGHLIN, 78, of Douds died this morning, June 12, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua after suffering a heart attack at home.

He was born Feb. 28, 1902, near Douds to Daniel T. and Nettie CADE LAUGHLIN. On July 2, 1932, he married Mary HOOTMAN at Memphis, Mo. They farmed in the Douds area before moving to town in 1966. He attended the Christ United Methodist Church and was a member of Starlight Lodge 350 Knights of Pythias, Douds Field Day Association and Douds Community Club.

Survivors: his wife; daughters, Norma Jane WITT of Selma and Julie SHARPLES of Buffalo, N.Y.; a son, James of Webster City; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; brothers, Floyd of Douds and Ernest of Birmingham; and sisters, Edna LEYDEN of Birmingham and Leona VanDerWALL of Richton Park, Ill.

Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, the Revs. Helen and L. C. Brown officiating. Burial: Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.

Arrangements: Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Memorials: to the heart fund or his church.
