Leslie R. McLAIN, son of Ernest and Edna WILLIAMS MclAIN, was born May 28, 1908 near Birmingham and departed this life Saturday, August 30, 1980, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 72.
On February 27, 1930, he married Mabel BROWN at Ottumwa. They spent their married life farming in Van Buren County, having lived in the Stockport and Douds communities before moving to their present farm in the Cedar Chapel community in 1941.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his widow, a daughter, Twyla MILLER of Milton, five sons, Merle, James and David, all of Keosauqua, Ernest of Lockridge and Jerry of Milton, ten grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are two sisters, Thelma ASKEW of Stockport and Mary McLAIN of Des Moines, other relatives and many friends.
Les will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 1, 1980, at the Center Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Knupp officiating. Interment was in Center Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Iowa.
A memorial was established for the American Cancer Society.
