Mrs. Jane Wise

Mrs. Jane Wise passed away at the family home after an illness of five years. Four years ago she suffered a broken hip, from which she never recovered. During those years she remained at her home and was cared for by her children.

Christiana Jane Groves, daughter of Thomas Nelson and Rachel Smith Groves, was born Dec. 12, 1859, on a farm in Chequest Township, and passed away at her home in Milton, Iowa, Monday January 18, 1943. She was one of ten children, and was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Franklin and Jake who passed away a number of years ago.

Mrs. Wise spent her girlhood at the farm home of her parents, and attended country school and the Baptist church in Chequest Township.

On March 2, 1887, she was married to George Martin, and to this union was born three children. Martin Gibson; John who died in infancy and George.
Mr. Martin died, and a number of years later Jane was married to William Wise. To this union a daughter Elsie Wise England was born.

Mrs. Wise moved with her family from a farm to Milton 33 years ago, lived in the family home until her death. She united with the Methodist church in Milton and was active as long as her health permitted, both in the church and Sunday school, having been a member of the Berean Class since its organization.

She enjoyed social affairs and being with people, and was active in the Rebekah lodge and a charter member to the American Legion Auxiliary at both times of ___organization.
