Obituary of Mrs. Woodin
Mary Elizabeth Smith, was born in Kalamazoo county, Michigan, Nov. 23, 1837 and departed this life Feb. 5, 1911. She came with her parents to Iowa when but a little baby, two months old, and since resided in this state.
She joined the Methodist Episcopal church when a child and has ever since remained a faithful believer in Christ, often making the remark that death was as natural as life, and when her time came to go, it would be all right.
She was married to Herman Woodin in May 8, 1859 and there were born to them 9 children. With the exception of the first seven years of her married life, where they lived on a farm south of Milton, she has always lived in the home where she died , making a continuous residence in the one home for 45 years.
She was never a strong woman and for this reason was ever to be found in her home doing for and giving helpful advice to her children she was always ready and willing to help her neighbor.
She leaves 6 children , 3 sons and 3 daughters , Francis of Akron, Colorado, Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Shull of Cantril, Iowa, and Herman, Homer, Luna in the home, besides the grandson Frank Woodin, who also lives in the home.
Besides these she left 5 sisters and 9 grandchildren. The husband and father having preceded her to the life beyond Dec. 13, 1910. Also 2 sons and 1 daughter had gone on before her.
The funeral service was in charge of undertaker Wellborn of Cantril, and was held at the house on Wednesday afternoon at 2’oclock.
Rev. Lloyd Tennant sang a solo and read and appropriate Scripture and made a short address from Psalms 35-11 as a Text.
