PURCIL.

Mary Brown was born near Hamilton, Butler Co., Ohio, Feb. 10, 1821, and died at Bonaparte, Iowa, January 30, 1901, aged 79 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She was married to William Buck in Preble county, Ohio, Sept. 20, 1840. One daughter; Margaret Jane, was born to them, who afterwards became the wife of Rev. James Welch. She died at Bonaparte, Iowa, March 22, 1879. Mr. Buck died December 1847. She was married a second time in February, 1855 to Dr. Brice Purcil at Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Purcil died Dec. 1866.

She made a profession of religion when 18 years of age, and united with the United Presbyterian church of Hopewell, Ohio, and afterwards on removing to Iowa, with the Presbyterian church. She was faithful in her church relations, and was all her life a believer in the Christian religion, and an earnest and devout follower of her savior.

The end came suddenly. Sitting in her chair, she asked her great granddaughter, Margaret, to please bring her a drink of water. After drinking the water she complained of a severe pain in her heart, and in less than five minutes she passed away.

She was a woman of ability and intelligence, being a constant reader, and thus she kept herself well informed on all the events of the day, both in church and state.

Those who mourn her departure are comforted with the assurance that it is well with her, and that, with her loved ones who have gone before, she has entered eternal rest.

Her funeral took place Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2:30 p.m. from the residence of her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Johnson, and was largely attended, the services being conducted by Rev. G. H. Duty, of the Presbyterian church.

Four sisters and one brother survive her, and also five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
