MILTON — Dorothy E. Roberts, 92, formerly of Milton, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Davis County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Bloomfield where she had resided the past several years.
Dorothy was born March 2, 1919, at Upton to Clarence and Mary Wireman Nichols and married Marion W. “Red” Roberts March 2, 1937, in Ottumwa. He died Nov. 29, 2008. Red and Dorothy lived for a time in Lockridge and many years in Milton, where he managed the lumber yard. Dorothy was a homemaker and part-time bookkeeper at the lumber yard. She was a long-time member of Milton Christian Church, served in numerous offices, sang in the choir and played the organ. Dorothy had been an Eastern Star and especially enjoyed singing and playing music, doing crossword puzzles and being with family. She also loved flower gardening and her cats.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Dickman and husband James of Benton City, Wash.; two grandchildren, James Roberts and wife Lisa of Coralville and Jaylin Roberts and wife Amy of Renton, Wash.; a sister, Vada Younker of Independence; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James L. Roberts and Larry Roberts in infancy; an infant daughter, Mona Roberts; and several brothers and sisters, including Ruth Nichols Hensley.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday Sept. 29, in Milton Christian Church; Justin DeVries, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton.
Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with family present 5-7 p.m.
Memorials to Davis County Hospital Long Term Care Unit may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 55901 North Demoss Road, Benton City, Wash. 99320.
