Ellis Bailey Humbert, son of Isaiah and Mary Humbert was born in Pennsylvania, March 11, 1844, died at his home in Milton, January 16 1928, age 83 years, 10 months and 5 days. He came with his parents when quite young to a farm near Bonaparte where he lived until the Civil War broke out when he enlisted and served his country until his health failed him, and received his discharge and returned home in the year of 1864. Then moved with his parents to a farm south of Milton.

He was united in marriage to Indiana Tatman, Sept. 26 1866 and lived on his farm until six years ago, when they moved to Milton where they lived happily together until February 5, 1927, when the wife was called home leaving Mr. Humbert alone, where he has been tenderly cared for by his children and the extra help that has been employed in the home. To this union five children were born, namely Evalena, Scott L., Bruce L., Isaiah and Hallie V., Evalena dying in her 33rd year leaving five small children whom he and his wife cared for until grown with the exceptions of Evalena dying at the age of 7 years; Hallie V. dying in infancy, Scott L., November 25, 1927; leaving Bruce L. of Cincinnatti, Ohio; and Isaiah, of Milton; seven grandchildren, Earl and Bruce Denning of Oakland, Calif; Gertie Wise of Hotchkiss, Colo.; Bonnie Barrow of Ft. Madison; Ethel Snyder of Ft. Madison; Gail Workman of Dallas, Texas; and Ellis Humbert, of Milton; also eight great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his loss.

He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church until moving to Milton. He then placed his membership with the Methodist Episcopal church at Milton. He was also an honorary member of the I.O.O.F. Order at Milton.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church in Milton, Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. H. F. Gilbert. Interment in the South Prairie Chapel cemetery near his old… (obituary cut off)
