Howard Merle Whitney was born to Hugh and Catherine Bartholomew Whitney in Agency, IA on August 6, 1927. Following graduation from Van Buren Community High School, he served in the Marines during WWII and later in the Air Force. In 1949, he married Dorothy Reynolds and they farmed in Wapello County. He joined the US Border Patrol in 1955. After several duty stations, they settled in Whitefish, Montana in 1961 and raised their family. He retired as a super4visory agent for the northern sector after 33 years. He is survived by Dorothy and 4 daughters: Beverly Palmer, Sandra Shanks, Pamela Whitney and Mary Lidstrom. He is also survived by his twin sisters, Doris Bradshaw and Donna Godwin and Joyce Stokes of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Jean Muntz.
