John Hales III 1821 - 1904

JOHN HALES [III]
John Hales, son of John and Sarah Hales, was born in Carroll County, Ohio, February 24, 1821, and died October 29, 1904, being at his death 83 years, 8 months and 3 days old. He was married to Jane Moody July 14, 1849. In the same year moved to Clayton county, Iowa, and settled near McGregor. In 1865 he moved to Van Buren county where he continued to live until the date of his death. Eight children were born to this union four of whom preceded him to the better world. On the 12th of November last his faithful wife departed this life. The children surviving are Sarah C. Wells, of Kahoka, Mo; J. R. Hales of Rich Hill, Mo; and T. F. and Albert Hales, of this county. In 1860 he united with the United Brethren church and lived and died in the same faith. In addition to those already mentioned, he left surviving him an aged brother, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Rev. Carlson of Keosauqua conducted the funeral services. The remains were deposited in Center Chapel Cemetery.
