LAURA THARP

Laura Tharp, daughter of Thomas and Laura Christy Ferguson, was born June 9, 1886 in Peskville, Missouri, and departed this life Friday February 8, 1980, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 93. She lived most of her life near Mt. Sterling, Iowa. On January 21, 1903, she married William Watkins at Kahoka, Missouri, Mr. Watkins died in 1932. She later married John Tharp in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1953. Also preceding her were two daughters, Hazel and Amy, one son John, and three grandchildren, Ron Neilkey, Lloyd Watkins, and David Watkins.

Remaining to cherish her memory are three sons, Willis Watkins of Keosauqua, Clarence of Emporia, Kansas, and Walter of Milan, Illinois. Two daughters, Jessie Warner of Keosauqua and Leona Lagle of Mesa, Arizona. 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, one sister, Jessie Moffatt of Keokuk, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 10, 1980, at 2:00 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Edward Kail officiating, pall bearers were grandsons, Ronald Watkins, Todd Watkins, Karl Warner, Jerry Syfert, Mike Duncan, and Mike Warner. Interment Center Chapel Cemetery.
