John T. Tharp, son of William Marshall Tharp and Martha M. Tharp was born August 1, 1868 in Van Buren Co near Mt. Sterling and died in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital on September 12, 1953 at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 12 days.

Mr. Tharp became a member of the M.E. church at Mt. Sterling in 1890. He served for several years in the County recorder’s office at Keosauqua, Iowa and also as mayor of Mt. Sterling, Ia.

In 1934 on March 22, he was united in marriage to Laura A. Watkins who survives him. He is also survived by eight step-children, eighteen step-grandchildren and eight great, great [sic?] grandchildren.
